Originally by: Vio Geraci ôAbove all other ideas, I would like, even if its not terribly imaginative, extra bonuses to capital turret and citadel torpedo damage that would allow a titan with a full rack of weapons to do around roughly 1000 DPS without needing to go into any kind of siege mode. Instead of being the æmad bomberÆ that it is now, the titan becomes a super battlestar. 1000 DPS is less damage than a carrier can potentially do, but this titan wouldnÆt have fighters you could shoot down, and avoiding its fire would require maneuvering and tactical movement, which the titanÆs defending force would have to counter by neutralizing them by simply destroying them or electronic warfare, or otherwise.
ôAs to what the titan could bring to the battlefield, without any tracking bonuses, capital turrets will have trouble hitting cruisers and below, but at range will hit a battleship somewhat reliably, and even more effectively if the titanÆs support webs itÆs targets, encouraging teamwork, emerging roles in combat, and yet more tactical coordination on each side. To make sure the titan stays alive, carriers could go into triage mode and keep it alive and in the fight, providing more intermediate goals in combat besides æPrimary this, secondary thatÆ, which, as I understand, isnÆt ideal in the eyes of the design team.
ôMost importantly, this gives titans distinct and unavoidable limitations that prohibit groups from building more and more titans and instead invest more in its support, and it does so in a meaningful way. Theoretically, one could make 20 titans, but it might not do that much good if it leaves so many other necessary roles in a fleet unfulfilled. The 45-150 billion ISK for that would be better spent on its support fleet, as it should be.
ôOn the subject of addressing EWAR immunity, I have a few other concerns. If bubbles are the only way to tackle titans, are you prepared to allow people to use bubbles in lowsec space, in case they need to confront a supercapital there? Are you already working on fixing the æbounding spheresÆ that unintentionally extend the range of smartbombs? What about the fact that titans are larger than interdiction spheres themselves? And though I donÆt mean to play the blame game or anything, bugs do tend to resurface from time to time, so what if a new patch unexpectedly breaks bubbles so that they donÆt work, essentially giving the titan essentially complete immunity yet again?
ôI stand firm on my notion that there needs to be a targeted module available to tackle titans and other supercapitals, both as a contingency in the event of unanticipated bugs and to protect the established boundaries already in place in the game. A strategic interdictor wonÆt do it, capital scramblers wonÆt do it, and neither will any ship-specific instrument. I insist that plain-jane Warp Scrambler/Disruptor Is should have in some capacity the ability to tackle a titan, and as time goes on this necessity will only become more and more unavoidable than before. Whether or not the supercapital balance team will consider this before Revelations 2.0 is released, I donÆt know, but I can certainly hope so.ö
